Total computer novice - Need help getting a new power supply

I sure hope one of experts can help me out here.

About a year ago I made the decision to build my on computer as a way to save money. Obviously, since I didn't want to spend a ton of money I bought a barebones case (came with the PSU and motherboard) and hoped it would turn out alright.

It worked flawlessly, up until the past Sunday, which is when an 8600GT that a friend gave me died without warning. Now, I'm not 100% sure of the card is dead or if the PCI-E slot went bad though I would assume that there would be some type of alert or error presented when I powered on the PC.

The 8600GT has four(4) popped capacitors so I'm going with that the card went bad. Now I talked to a friend over AIM and he told me that the PSU might be the issue since it sounded like a "piece of junk".

So, my plan is to replace it and the video card but as google has shown me, not all PSUs are the same size, which is why I' hoping you guys can tell which size I need to get.

I took some pictures of both the card and the PSU (though I'll only link to the PSU): http://i39.tinypic.com/2j4suhg.jpg

I don't know if the image helps but I'm really hoping It's the same size as this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817339012

Since newegg is running a combo promotion on that and a Radeon HD 4350 for $53.98 which is about all I can afford right now.

-Thanks in advance!

LOL! Good Call! :D:good:

Give us a make/model/product number or something for the motherboard and the case and and we'll be able to tell you whether the new one you want to buy will be compatible.

We can't even tell what power supply you have, the picture has a glare on it. Don't do it is my 2 cents worth. You should be spending at least $50-60 just on the power supply, not the power supply and video card. The power supply is the bones of the system per say. You don't want to skimp on that part of your system or you'll be back in the same situation again.

This would be the minimum PS to get.

Yeah, really sorry about the glare didn't notice it until after the fact. Here's a much better image: http://i44.tinypic.com/hrx8nn.jpg

Encase that's not clear either it's an Austin PSU - Model: DR-8320BTX

And here's the link to the barebones kit I bought: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856167036

I understand that I should spring a little more for the PSU (and the Video Card as well) but I have this gift card with a little under $60 on it and I need something temporary, because a few months from now I'm should be able to build a beast.

I share this computer with my younger sibilings and they're always doing something on here whether it be putting together a project, watching movies or playing games so I want to make sure they can still do that without any issues.

PSU is nowhere to "save" money on, its the heart of the system. This is about as cheap as you can go for a quality power supply:

Thanks for all the help, I think I'm going to pick up that PSU and just wait on getting a video card. Sorry for the hassle, I can be a little stubborn about spending money.
