new build help- In FLA, USA, can run xp or W7, have them from builder, you suggest please. Usage- new gamer here, like racing COD FPS types, online poker player, email, pics, music storage, basic but want to be game ready. Budget 800-1200$ not much over but like to hear the options while I have knowledgeable people's attention. Running 42" and 37" lcd's as monitors, have keyboards etc, just getting tower built, trading for car. Guy's dad owns a shop, has to use intel for MB and cpu, looked at i7/860 but read don't really need quad for my use, maybe better to get best dual core I can and get better video card which I definitely need help with, also he mentioned two 500gb hdd, why not one 1TB instead?RAID, is there a plus to this? Best memory type? also read better two 3gb sticks rather than three 2gb etc,ddr2 vs ddr3? I really just want the fastest, most memory I can get, something to keep me going a good few years without replacing much but like upgradeable where I can get it, also 3.0 usb? gonna be necessary before long? I'm 45, a complete idiot, ripped off in past buying etowers etc. Please be gentile. I am most appreciative of you guys out there helping, rare glimpse of decent people not all about profit helping others, though I know your time and education is very valuable, so Thanks ahead of time. By the way I think smart to have info to direct unknowing people in what info to provide to speed up process. I don't know much of anything about overclocking etc or making to many adjustments, bios flashing is alien to me etc, so need something gonna screw together and run games at decent pace, stuck on dial up also, so more playing games alone not on network, if that makes a difference. So using intell for MB and CPU , lcd moniters, what do I have him build me? Run my xp home or go windows7, best video card for money, maybe update to 2nd card later? Thanks AJ update builder says i7 not possible, whats best dual core cpu to go with the best MB, or do I need a quad, maybe i5 p55 MB? or at least a q9-- chip in what MB?also having difficulty with the LGA info, whats gonna last longest, whats being phased out? be upgradeable without being to much? hopefully lastly guy says he thinks window7 32 bit supports just 4gb memory, is this correct, is this enough memory to last me? Been reading guides etc, but have not helped me much as you can see, lol. Thanks for patience, wanted video cards GeForce GTX 295 or Radeon HD 4870 X2, may well be out of the budget by to much, what would you guys go for? ps sorry to open new thread can't seem to add to other for some reason on old ibm30

Urrr... too long, don't want to read...

$1200 from newegg, you could get -

CPU - core i5 750 to fit the budget
get core i7 860 if you can spend $1250

Mobo - GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3
I only see gigabyte have mobo support usb 3.0 and sata 6GB

RAM - Free shipping G.skill 2 x 2GB DDR3 1600/ DDR3 1866
There is no such thing as 2 x 3GB. If you want core i5/ i7, it only have DDR3.
you either go for 2 x 2GB/ 4x 2GB/ 2 x 4GB. Most ppl would choose 2 x 2GB, as it usually be enough.

24 x DVD burner - not sure which brand the best. i used sony/ LG/ Lite-on, haven't got problem.

Video card - ATI 5850
GTX 295 not worth the money. ATI 5870 would be best choice.
This is a very powerful card, by the time you think about adding a second card, it would be better off to another powerful new card. And if you choose P55 platform, it won't support crossfire at full speed, I doubt if a second card worth the money.
But due to your budget 5850 is the way to go.

HDD - 2 x 500GB or 1TB, WD black/ Seagate 7200.12
I personally would just stick 1 TB in. you could run 2 x 500GB with RAID 0, it is faster, but if one of your HDD broken, it gone. If you want it run fast, grab a SSD to run OS and program, than 1 TB HDD for storage.

PSU - something around 700W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...Value=4097:30089&PropertyCodeValue=4097:43844

Case - CM690 currently $60 FS. Worth buying

OS - Windows 7 Pro 64bit OEM
Both Windows 7 Pro/ Ulitmate 64 bit of them can run program at windows xp mode.
Which one to get, up to you.

Also, have a look at combo deal, it could save you some money

SAPPHIRE HD 4850 X2 2G/1G GDDR3 PCI-E - 239$ from new egg,http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102809 has some huge numbers compared to the 5850 except it supports directx10.1 not 11, will this hinder me now or in future? ok also see the 5870 is 850 vs 650 clock, man the more I read the more behind I get. Definitely going I5 if I can't swing the I7/860, I also saw the gigabyte mobo and like the idea of being 3.0 ready but he said only intell so I am looking at ntel BOXDP55KG LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel which is pricier at 204$. Hate to ask, but what is ssd? fast sounds good and can get a 1tb pretty cheap. Also if he only has W7 32 should I go with that or spend the extra myself for 64? Big difference? Sorry if I sound so ignorant but I am. I truely appreciate you taking the time to teach this old dog new tricks. AJ

Not sure about some ppl comment on only intel support USB 3.0...
Are you going to pay extra $70 on top of gigabyte ??

Video card - If the card could support DirectX11, it could also support DirectX 10.1
Ignore 4850 x2. ATI 4890 run at similar speed with lower energy consumption

5850 > 4850 x2 ~ 4890

OS 32bit - support up to 3.25GB RAM

SSD

They are a lot faster and a lot more expensive to standard HDD.
1TB HDD @ $90, 500GB @ $55

Builder has to go through his supplier for MoBo and CPU which apparently only offer Intel for his line of credit and I don't see that Intel has a 3.0/6sata board built by Intel if that makes sense so not sure that link will help other than valuable info for later, which I thank you for. I understand DX11 will support 10.1 but will I be missing out by not being DX11 ready? As to the video card, I like the price much better and it's clock speed is better the 4850x2 has 650 core clock vs 850-950 but 1GB more and 1600 vs 800 stream PU, does the clock speed out weight the higher stream and extra memory, also memory interface is 512 on 4850 vs 256 on your suggestion, I do see 4850 is gddr3 vs gddr5, is that what also will make up for other stats? As I said more I read, the worse it gets, must be where the saying a little knowledge is dangerous thing. I appreciate your continued guidance. AJ

The MoBo link while helpful in general, my builder/supplier says he has to get cpu and mobo built by intell from his supplier? Maybe to finance not sure. It is his dad's shop. I understand DX11 will support 10.1 but am I missing out not being 11 capable as neither of these cards are? I did find ssd info and see the cost etc, do you agree it is a good investment and will help speed it all up? as to the video card, the 4850x2 has 2gb vs 1, the core clock speed is only 650 vs 850-950 varies by builder I see, but has streaming at 1600 vs 800 and 512 vs 256 memory interface, at the same time I see 4950x2 is also gddr3 vs your suggestions gddr5, does that alone make up for the other weaker appearing stats? I am not overly energy conscious, lol. Thanks for your continued guidance AJ
