Total Novice to build a Desktop?

To your comment about fans, due to the fact you will not be gaming, a computer with 4 fan is not needed. I game and I have 2 fans. It works fine.

To your question about screen and graphic cards. A screen with more pixels and larger size will require a better graphics card if a) you game b) edit video/pictures c) use vista d) it will improve the general speed to some extent because onboard card uses your MEMORY.

Hope that helps. I suggest getting a 7600GS if you are getting 22". Do NOT get the 7300GS or LE, my mom has it on her Dell and it is BAD.

You say "The 22" Samsung will have a higher resolution and require more power to run at that resolution" By power, I asssume you mean the Graphics card- but computermaineack says "no, having a bigger screen does not require a better graphics card- so if by power you dont mean the graphics card forget this response- otherwise whats the deal?- you say yes, maineack says no.

I am a complete novice at this so if im wrong some one correct me. But I think that you would check the native resolution of the monitor and compare it to the max resolution of the Graphics Card. If it is under the top (max) resolution of the graphics card then it should work. Now don’t take this as it’s in stone, im probably wrong.

Computermaineack,

But I hope you're wrong because I have a receipt for the Fujitsu T4215, and it says "CORE 2 Duo", not Core Duo, so if its not when I get it next week, Im going to be pretty pissed, to say the least.- check it out. http://configtool.fujitsupc.com/s...pports 1024x768 (which most do), you're fine.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I couldn't get away for the holiday.

Just to confirm. I appreciate everybodies recommendations for everything, but for whatever exact reason I dont know why, Im really attracted to the acrylic see through case I linked in the first page. Can anyone tell me if there is any drawback to ordering that case? like, will it not be compatable with certain types of motherboards or PSU's or any other computer components? In other words, will the fans in that case and arrangement of the components (whichever ones exactly I dont know yet) prevent the computer from operating or being protected to its maximum potential in anyway compared with the other less expensive case?

P.S. At least I had the time to read LAX's Building Computer 101 essay. Can anyone say if there are any newer versions to his essay, if today, 18 months later any of his recommendations/instructions may be inapplicable to todays components and computer building procedures?

Also to Computermaineack,

I couldn't get your weblink to work, but are you saying that the fujitsu computer I ordered is not really a "Core 2 duo"? If its only a Core Duo, then I was misinformed by the sales rep. Please let me know, because I couldn't understand why Fujitsu was selling the latest Core 2 duo, when IBM was only selling the Core Duo. This is very confusing for me.

The case should work- just make sure your mobo and case are the same format- for example, the most common is ATX.

Assembly- not much is different...

And as for your laptop...your laptop isn't the Core 2 Duo, thats the desktop version. Your laptop has the "Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Technology". Look here.

Dear Computermaineack,

That's very confusing. In your link, it says "Intel Core 2 Duo" in big bold lettering at the top, nonetheless "Tech: Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Technology" below.

When I ordered this, I was told that this model had the latest "Core 2" CPU technology which was an advancement over the previous model T4210, which only had "Core Duo" not "Core 2 Duo". I feel very mislead. But I believed it because almost every other PC tablet said "Core 2 Duo" with the exception of IBM and a few others- which seemed very peculiar.

I still find it confusing why so many of the NB's say "Core 2 Duo", but from what I understand, you say that "Core 2 Duo" does not exist for NB's?

Im just trying to figure out what is the best component configuration a NB can have. I had "Centrino M" before, and it was terrible- way too slow.

Anyway, is there a thread which compares the speeds of all the different Laptop CPU's, I can study before I ask even more questions? I want to compare which ones are worth the extra money and which ones are faster than the other?

Last question, for now. What is MOBO? Wait, I think its MOBO is motherboard? Is that correct?
thanks for all your help again.
