ive been looking at the panasonic toughbooks. thinking about getn one for my motorcycle shop. are these any good? i need a laptop for my techs to use when they are programing motorcycles power converters. i do need something that can take the rough use. thanks

well.. toughbook is one of the only names in rugged laptops really, at least that I've ever known of.

they're well known though and pretty durn good (I've been looking for one myself)

I think for the use outlined they'd be ideal, other then a toughbook you could also look at a desktop solution where the computer case is hidden from being damaged and such, a piece of plexi over the monitor and a rugged type keyboard and mouse that has been tested for chemical resistance.

Toughbooks are tough, but not impervious.

I have seen what happens to Toughbooks in the hands of sailors on an aircraft carrier, and I see what the aircraft mechanics at the airline I work for now do to the ones we have.

It isn't pretty. With that said, they still function, which can't be said for the average consumer laptop if employed under similar circumstances.

I agree: a Toughbook, though expensive, would suit your application. Just make sure your guys know and understand that these machines can and do get broken, and if it were me, I'd be ready to dock the pay of the first guy who put even the tiniest scratch on it.
