Hey all like most people i've been using a mouse for ever and studying IT there is a risk of RSI.

So i've been thinking about using a trackball, but they're not cheap so i want to know some stuff before i buy one if i buy one at all.

1st: Does using a trackball prevent (or lessen the chance of getting) RSI?

2nd: How easily do you get used to using a trackball?

3th: What is your favourite trackball and why?

Hmmm after alot of research i found that opinions vary alot about whats a good trackball and why. Microsoft trackball optical and Logitech trackman are the favourites mostly.

About the prevention of RSI? I'm still unshure.. It depends on the trackball and you body i guess. RSI prevention starts with good posture but the above called trackballs are ergonomical and are told to be very comfortable.

Getting used to it wil also depend on the user.

(i know im double posting but this is nice if someone else searches for a topic like this (it comes up in google))

well.. im using a trackball quite a while now, and never had any problems :)

this is my trackball. i like this one because you push around the ball with your thumb, so the buttons are swiched like the ones on a mouse.
thats why you get used to this trackball really easy.
( and if you played ps2 or xbox games, looking around using your thumb is really a piece of cake :) )

Yeah thats the microsoft tracball optical. I was thinking about getting that one too. I heard that newer ones had a problem with sticky and grinding feeling to it because something changed somewhere. One fix for that i read for that is sticking a teflon sticker on where the ball rests i think.

Edit:

Yeah i got it today and im pleased till now.. i don't have to circle like a hawk around the target but i just slide to it an correct a bit (i usually go over it a bit).
It's very comfy and im shure i'll get very precise soon. I'll post something once i experiance something new with it.

Repetive strain injury? when u use a mouse alot and do repetive actions with your arm like that your whole arm can start aching alot and if you don't act soon when you notice it it can leave a permanent injury
