Trading CPU

100% sure on those specs
No those specs are just written wrong

Celeron D runs on 133 core clock and 533 fsb
p4 will run on 200 core clock and 800 fsb

When you change them the respective clocks will change to fit the chip (most likely)

As for the ram, well that will clock itself as well. But just out of curiosity what type of ram is it - use cpu-z to find out

Well I have CPU-z but I can tell you right now my ram is ddr pc2700 and so is his.

And with cpuz I have a core of 2533.5mhz, multiplier of 19, fsb of 133.3mhz, and bus of 533.4mhz.
For him it is core of 2788.5mhz, multiplier of 28, fsb of 100, and bus of 400.

I thought fsb effected everything in the pc, pci slots, ram, ect. So wouldnt it slow down my machine?

Oh and guess what, we have the same mobo. So I know it should work. I just dont know if I should or not.

The FSB can be changed. He is obviosuly running at "fail-safe" defaults or something similiar, and an insanely high multi.

stock, my CPU is like 166*12 - ~2.0GHz

But i can run it 200*10 - ~2.0GHz 24/7 (which I consider "stock")

Yes but I cant overclock, well in my mobo manual it says move the pin and I will be able to run a maintnence to overclock or something like that. But, /me is afraid, /me is very afraid.

If I overclock my machine to like 3ghz and then pop it into my dads computer will it stay at 3ghz?

Ok well I guess my plan is to overclock my cpu over 2.8(not in one stride of cource) and if it holds on my machine Ill overclock it on his. Ill trade and then overclock his pentium for better fsb. Wish me luck.

Well, that wont work. I cant overclock in the bios and my board is not supported by other overclocking programs. And I dont really want that slow of fsb, unless it will get be 40fps....hmm. *loads halo on dads pc for test*

The video card is the main factor there, not so much the CPU. If u share the same vid car and settings then maybe thats more of a true comparison.

the settings that are changed when you overclocked are stored in the BIOS, which is on the mobo. Nothing actually changes in the CPU.

He has onboard video and I have nvida gforce 4 mx 4000. I am getting 4fps during game play and about 8 during cut seens. He is getting 15 during game play and 30 during cut seens. So I suppose it is a good trade. The fsb is the only thing I see wrong with it being 100 not 133 like I have. I suppose my ram can take it a little slower, unless my mobo would make it go up to 133. In which case that would be awsome.

What, no p4 runs on fsb 100. Did you read my post #21 http://www.computerforum.com/showpost.php?p=163053&postcount=21

I absolultly gaurentee that you will see an improvement in your performance, and your fps will go up. As already mentioned your onboard gpu will start to limit your gaming experience and will be the next thing to upgrade after the cpu. Why are we even discussing the point as to whether or not it would be worth it for you to change, its a no brainer

Ok, I will. Its just my bios and cpu-z said it was 100. Although I think I am gunna say your right not some program. Ill tell ya how good it is after the switch, thanks.

100% sure on those specs, And we both have 512 ram. Now that is true it is kinda selfish but it is equivalent exchange. He has the newer ram, mobo, DVD-RW, hard drive, and power supply/case. So instead of one pc being great and one being not so great, we will be closer to even. But his still will be better, unless I upgrade but in that case I would be paying for it.

That doesn't justify anything.
