Tranferring video from HD camcorder to PC

I am not sure what I am doing wrong but when I transfer video from my Sony Camcorder (in HD) the result is jumpy and halting - I think frames are being dropped during the transfer process but I cannot work out how to resolve it. The camcorder came with software that automatically detects the camcorder and transfers the HD video. There seems to be no way to change any settings on this program. It connects via a USB cable. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You are transferring the video via usb or firewire? If you are transferring the video via usb are you sure your computer has usb 2.0?

I checked in device manager and it said "standard enhanced" Is that 2.0? Could it be the software that's the problem? Thanks again

Who knows... Don't you love drivers that such random names What is your machine? Specs or a make/model?

And rather than streaming it, I thought they recorded as MPEG4 where you could just drag and drop them to your PC rather than having to capture the video...
