Transfer Files via firewire

I just bought a new computer and i'm trying to transfer file from the old computer to the new one. I once did this with the firewire ports but I can't remember exactly how I can look at a folder or drive this way. Any advice or tips would be great.

mayb you could post in neway, as i just bought a new comp and would like to know... i guess i could always just go through my external, but its only usb2 not firewire...
