Transfer Software?

So my Aunt bought a business a few weeks back and is needing to replace the desktop in fear it may not have much more time left. The issue is there is some specific software in which she does not have the disc and the previous owner said she does not know where the disk went. Is there a legal way of transferring that software onto the new desktop she buys without and actual disc?

You could image the whole drive and copy it to a new pc, but that would copy everything.

You could try some key finder software to retrieve the product key, once you have the key you could re-download the software and install it and enter the original key.

Thanks, yeah I am going to have to try or something and I know some finder software, good idea. Yeah I thought about cloning the drive but when I was talking to my Aunt I asked her what version of Windows are you running and she told me she doesn't know, then I ask what color task bar and she told me it was grey so I am thinking a really old OS which I though cloning at this point would have not been good.

Sounds like an old system. Tell her to goto start and right click computer then choose properties. At the top it will tell her the operating system and all specs, memory etc.

I am going to be dropping by her place tomorrow and I am hoping for at least Windows 2000, if the software was originally designed to run on ME, 2000 or in a worst case 98 second edition what are the chances this would still be compatible with a 64 bit Windows 7?

Taskbar color is not any kind of indication of what operating system could be lol...
Because any operating system can be modified to change the color of anything to any color lol...

In the SYSTEM PROPERTIES you can see the operating system which is being used on that computer...

By the way...I always hated software whos compatibility SUCKS lol...
I mean it just sucks that a software can ONLY run on let's say...Windows 98 and Windows 2000 (just an example) and that it cannot run on NEWER operating system...that just sucks lmao!

That is the KEY reason why the software I make ALWAYS works on Windows 98 first edition AND NEWER. :D

Anyway there IS a way to transfer the software on the new computer, but the procedure is long and complicated so I am surely not gonna write the procedure here...(my posts are long enough even without that lol)...
So the most simple and the fastest way is to retrieve the key code and then redownload and reinstall the software and then just enter the key code (registration code)...

I on the other hand do not do it that way...,but I guess that's just me lol...
