Transfer WMP music to Itunes

My son gave me as a birthday present an Ipod nano, I have more thn 4000 songs in WMP, when I try to transfer my MP library Itunes do not allow me to do it.

Apparently the format is not the correct one. Can I change the the format in WP to MP3 or any other format in order to do the transfer? Do I need to buy a new software for that?

You should be able to convert the music in the main folder to a compatible format... Or, import the songs under the file tab, and iTunes should automatically convert them.

When you said "be able to convert the music in the main folder to a compatible format", do you refer to my music fils in Wndow or the folder (album) in WMP? I also tried to do in itunes without success.

Well, see if you can find the folder that has all the songs you want to use on the iPod, and then "Import" them (under the "File" tab) to iTunes. If it needs to, iTunes should automatically convert the songs to a suitable format for the iPod.
