Transfering files from PC to Laptop

This may a completely n00b question but I just got a new laptop and don't have a clue how to directly transfer information from my PC to the laptop?

Burning CD's won't do as PC doesn't have DVD burner and I'm wanting to transfer over 15Gb of files.

I'm pretty sure all you need is a cable or modem chord. Once you plug the chord into both machines, you can just run a network connection wizard and setup a network- at that point it'll be just copy and paste to your new laptop...

Now, I'm no expert, so google for a tutorial... it shouldn't be too hard.

Cheers,

Connected them together and went through an online walkthrough but it didn't seem to work. Is there any known problems connecting a windows XP to a windows ME or I am just doing it wrong?

transferring files

theres a bit more to it than just connecting the computers together......firstly you either need a wried or wireless nwterok adapter in each of your computers.......you then need to connect the cables to the relevant ports on the back.........or if using a wirless adapter you need to set up a connection as per the manual of the manufacturers of the wireless device.

You then need to run the network set up wizard and follow the instructions. You may then have problems with your firewalls so you need to make sure that you have enabled file and printer sharing in the firewall options.

You also need to right click on your hard drives on both computer and go to the Sharing tab and enable other computers to be able to share your hard drive........once this is all done you will be able to share files between your machines.

Not too easy for a beginner.......you may need to get a friend to do it for you.
