Transfering from one HDD to another 'acces denied'

Hello
Trying to move accros some of my dad's files from the old computer's hard drive onto my new one.
Plugged 'em both in to new machine however i cant copy over the files 'access is denied' this is because he was the administartor of that computer - is there any way of getting these files off the account other than plugging it back into old computer and transfering via USB storage device ? ( as my old computer takes more than 10 minutes to load)

Yes, if you're an administrator, then right click on the folder, go to Security, then Advanced, then Owner, Click on your name, then check the box that says reapply the permissions and settting......
Then click ok.
