Transferring files from phone to computer

I would like to transfer files from my phone to computer.

I plug the charger into the USB drive on the computer. I know the port works because the phone starts charging, but nothing comes up allowing me to transfer files.

I would like to be able to transfer pictures without having to email them to myself.

The phone is an Android. The computer is an Asus laptop.

Use Dropbox and configure it to upload your photos. It's quicker and easier than plugging in the USB cable.

Or you will need to set your usb port to data transfer instead of charging.

Also depending on the USB cable it may just be for charging.

Wifi sharing is usually easier.

Ive done as mentioned above. Now im using a microdrive that supports OTG (OnTheGo)
the drive seems to work with all. computers, laptops, cell phones, tablets etc.
Just mentioning.......
