I would say no......on the otherhand i have done a new installation with xp then took all the updates (critical and security). installed all the proggys, got the internet service running and all the favorite utilities then burn an image with Acronis true image that works well. low level format 1st. if its worth formatting, its worth doing right if ya had something already on it. erase all traces or ya might not be happy then do again.
Would doing a sysprep with the old HDD into new System and then Cloning the OS onto the new HDD work?..... anyone????
He (the OP ) said "can he" not "should" he !! and who said it was unstable in the first place. So you want to take a non stable OS to begin with, wipe out all the hardware DRM ID crap that it hashes all over the place (that is basically what sys prep does) and then hope it redetects and installs needed resources with out crashing or with out freaking out about registration?
Even an image wouldn't do you any good since the hardware configuration won't be the same.
Just reinstall, if you don't have the software then you need to buy it.

GEEEZ get a Grep![]()
Oh please don't misunderstand me!! I totally agree with you as far as that is EXACTLY what I would do if I was building a new system.heh ok I will go get a grep
I strongly suggest laying down a fresh install of whatever OS you are going to run. Especially on custom built PCs.
