Hey buddy,
I know this has nothing to do with the particular forum but I have been told you are the best when it comes to my particular question. I am jumping for a 32 bit athalon to a 64 bit, however, I have no knowledge in the 64 bit field. Is set-up the same? Anything different I need to do when placing cpu and so fourth? Also, Just out of pure curiosity, I am going to go with a 2800 so I wanting to know if you have any OC tips for me on this?

thanks,
Jason

Moved .. let's try and keep it clwan and organized :P

Roughly the same ... you just have to deal witha bunch more pins and the heatsink installation is arguably a bit more difficult (but then again the CPU housing is a lot more robust so its not so iffy)

Have read-over:http://www.computerforum.com/announcement.php?f=7

Budget

If I were to tell you that I was looking to spend around $500 dollars on just mobo, cpu, fan and ram what would you go for? Like I said before this is completely new to me as far as 64 bit goes.
thanks pal

Mobo MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (150USD)
RAM PQI/Kingmax 1GB PC3200 (130USD)
CPU AMD Athlon64-3000 Sockey939 (165USD)
Net 445USD
If the budget was $600 you could cram a Athlon64-3500 in there ... a big jump from the A64-3000 and IMO, worth it :) (of course you could always dumb down the mobo to reallocate funds)

Couple more quetsions

how do I go in to the bios to change multipliers and such...... have no idea where to go? Have never overclocked anything so what would you do?

Case?

What case do you recomment??? I have thought about the raidmax 868 but not sure if that is the right way to go

Have read-over:http://www.computerforum.com/announcement.php?f=7 .. once you've read that ... the manual is your friend (not cuz i dont wanna help but because the manual hjas all the options and stuff outlined :P)

I dont reccmend many cases as thats more of a personal opinion thing. Ive had very good luck with Chenming cases as well as the Aspire X-Navigaor. As for the Raidmax's, they are seriously overcharged in Canada and their PSUs have something to be desired so i dont buy them

Last question

I didn't want to spend the extra money but if it will put me in a better computer I would be willing to spend $750 dollars. What would you suggest to me on what to buy now?

Well the only thing you will really benifit significantly from is a CPU upgrade. For strarters, set the target to a Athlon64-3500 ... the 3800 is probably outside of that budget range (checks ... it is). Save the rest of the money ofr something else

video card

i have a ati radeon color vision video card now......will that work with the 64.....if not what would you go with if you had about $125 to spend on one?

Well it depends on the model, youve told us the series name ... now we need a model number

ok i ordered everything but the mobo

do you think i should still stay with that mobo even though i jumped to the athalon 64-3500?

Correct, the K8N Neo2 Platinum should be a socket939 board so it will work with the Athlon64-3500 :)
