All my cd/dvd drives have slide out trays for the disks, well in my computers anyway but in my car the cd player just has a slot, would a slot type be better for a PC and no more broken trays or I’m I missing something, just wondering…

It would be more practical... You can get the slot type for PC's my friend has one, I think they may have lower read speeds though.

Why do you think they have slower read speeds? If it's a laptop style drive, then yes... Macs, some Toshiba's, and perhaps a few others have slot loading drives. However, there are also desktop style slot-loaders that are just as fast as tray based drives.

My only guess to why they aren't used so much is it's a much more complex process(IE more $$$ :P). However, for a car setup, it's much easier to slide the disk in a slot than mount it on a spindle...

I don't know, I just thought they did... :P

They probably don't.

They may mark them more, but only by sliding them in, you won't if you're carefull :)

Do slide in drives mar the disk more?

My dads sony cd player in the car is a slide in cd thingy...and after time it does slightly scuff the disks.
He had a ACDC disk and it scratched it to the point it wouldnt play again:mad:
