Hi.

Ive got this problem, similar to heaps of others I have looked at but mine is different and doesnt fix with all the things Ive seen on it... Ok here goes:

1. Got new new rig as you all know.. In my sig..
2. Installed my copy of Vista Home Premium 64bit that I had on my old computer.
3. Everything thing was fine, installed programs and what not, then one random boot, my DVD Drive wasnt there... Not showing in "My Computer" and "Device Manager"
4. Check BIOS, DVD working fine in BIOS
5. Tried the Registry fix I found online - the deleteing "filters" etc... But I dont have any filters as per this pic.

6. Downloaded a rege fix file thats ment to do this for me.. didnt work.
7. Formatted and Reinstalled Vista.. DVD Drive was there again.
8. Tested it as I installed programs. Originally I thought it was Daemon Tools that deleted it... but after removing that and I got the DVD Drive back... After a few boots it was gone again...
9. Formatted again after nothing worked.. Installed and tested over a few days each program.. All was working then I installed Nero 9... It was gone again after install... I was like "yes finally got it" so I system restored and got it back... Next I tried to install Nero 7 (what I used with my old computer and everything was fine)
10. Nero 7 did the same thing once installed DVD Drive disappeared.... System restored back to before Nero 7... Installed Nero 7 again but only installed Nero Recode which is the only part of Nero I actually use... Everything was fine so I was happy.
11. Old HDD was giving me problems so I brought a new WD 1tb.
12. Installed Vista on the new HDD... Everything was fine.. I got to the point of Installing Nero 7 Recode.... but low and behold after install my DVD Drive had disappeared again... by this time I was getting angry... System Restored back to before Nero 7.
13. DVD Drive appeared again... but then once again today I boot my computer and its gone again.... So now I have no Idea what the hell it is....

Here's a list of programs I have installed so that if anyone knows something particular to them that might be causing it:

-3DMark05
-3DMark Vantage
-Ad-Aware
-Adobe CreativeSuite 4 Design Premium
-AGEIA PhysX
-AMD Fusion for Gaming
-AMD Overdrive
-ATi Cataylst
-AVG Free
-CPUz
-Daemon Tools
-Defragger
-Empire: Total War
-Futuremark System Info
-Office 2007
-PCMark05
-Realtek LAN
-Realtek Audio
-Steam
-Windows Live

Heres some screen shots showing no drive... the drive you see is Daemon Tools Vitrual Drive.

Ive tried the Microsoft Fixit thing which detect the problem but does nothing about it......

Please I need some help... Its rendering my expensive computer worthless.

Thanks in advance....

maybe theres compatibility issues between your dvd drive and Vista or that version of Vista. Is it an old drive?

Open the rig and make sure all cables are seated well. It may sound trivial but ive seen it happen.

Ive checked that haha it is one of the first things I check... However why would it dissappear then reappear if that was it?

Well the drive worked mint on my old computer with the exact same Vista.... Ill try a few SATA cables tonight but I really dont think thats it...

Its just getting me so angry and fustrated lol.

Ok well Ive tried a tip Ive found.

Gone into MSConfig and disabled everything. It seemed to bring the DVD Drive back... did a few restarts with different thing... And I think Ive got it narrowed down to a:

AODService

If thats enabled the DVD Drive isnt there...

Anyone no what this is?

The limited things I found on this all seemed to go around either a rootkit or a missing drive file and a possible AMD overdrive issue. Personally if it everything works fine and scans come up with nothing id leave it disabled and enjoy that its fixed.
