Tripple core processor?????????????????

When do you think the next generation advancement in CPU's will accrue? Triple core......I remember before I know anything about PC's I always thought a CPU was called a "micro processor" LOL. :P I went to Best Buy looking for one and they said they haven't been out in ages :D that was like 5 years ago LOL. That's so funny looking back at that... -(flash back)- "Hi do you sell micro processors here?" "My god! they do exist!? You'd be better buy a whole new computer." "gee, I was just looking for an upgrade for my Compaq...Technology goes bad quick..........." "that'll be $800.99" "For WHAT?" "giving advice and waisting my time." "what If I give you an unprotected credit card?" "that'll do" "here you go" "thanks......wait a minute, THAT MY CREDIT CARD!!! YOU LITTLE,...hay where'd you go?............"

Ahhh, those were the days....

Well, I believe Intel will actually have quad core processors out soon (I believe within the next year...)

The Core 2 Due Extreme costs about 1K right now...

I bet the Core 2 Quadro Extreme would cost anywhere from 1500$ up to 2000$.

ridiculous. CPU's are getting so expensive

just so you know, we might experience a drastic change in the market of computers in the second decade of this century, mostly based on Moore's law that technology will cease accelerating at that piont.

i also think triple core is impossible for some reason (read it somewhere) and quad core deosnt work well in windows....

Gee, is it a gaming CPU???? Will it cost over $1000?

Basically it's two Core 2 Duo's on one phyisical chip. And yes it will be expensive, all Extreme processors are. My guess is $1000-$1500.

However early next year they will release mid-level quad cores for a much more reasonable price.

They can only make them so expensive or else no one will buy them. The C2D's are really good right now, but it's still affordable for the average person to buy a mid-range C2D.

Quad core will definatelly be expensive, but it can only hit a certain point or else no one will buy the product.

hmmm....just in curiosity...what if you stuck dual quad core chips in a PC?
what is that, assuming each core = 1.86ghz x 8 = 14.88ghz of processing power?

It's possible when the new quad-core chips are released, but no, you don't add them together for a combined processing speed of 14.88Ghz.

completely agreed.. its like when you put 2 grafic's cards together in SLI... you'll never get 200% performance out of it.
further,.. the clock frequenty nowday's means basicly nothing anymore anyway :)

The prices for existing hardware will drop a bit as new hardware arrives. However, this assumes the supply of the existing hardware does not drop. If the supply drops, the price will go up.

Those that did economics at school, just remember the supply/demand/price graphs.

When will the general software that is designed for multiple cores be out so that all those cores can be utilized?
