Trobule with Rebooting...

The system boots up, loads up into Windows XP Pro - after a short while it suddenly stops and turns off/powers down. With no intervene from anyone!

Once I recv'd a message about shadow or cache being turned off, Windows shutting the system down due to problems.

Could it possibly be from the following problems?

a) bad memory

b) mobo is bad

c) cpu is getting too hot (as a few times messages state Press F1) and that cpu needs to be replaced.

d) all of the above?

If I changed out the RAM and the mobo - could that easily solve this issue... it only happens often, well... more recently than not.

Just like to know anyone's advice?

An interesting thought... although this psu is fairly new, but I have a testing psu I can replace and see if that solves the problem.

If anyone else has any suggestions, open to listen?!
 
My computer will reboot on it's own once in a great moon.

It's usually a software problem.... Like, the computer usually crashes for a few seconds first, and then restarts.

Check all the connections between your case and your motherboard, (power, reset, etc.) and check all connections from your power supply to the motherboard as well. Maybe something's just loose enough to wiggle and reset.

Also, could be a loose cpu, loose memory, etc. When i took a grill-ignitor (one of the static-charge ones) to my motherboard (don't ask why) every time i clicked the ignitor, the computer would restart :) So it could be a loose connection ZAPPING the motherboard.

I thought of that... but, it doesn't necessarily restarts... it shuts down!!!!

In the middle of using the internet, it seems to freeze while accessing files, or a website... then suddenly BAM! It's off!

I have to flip the switch and wait to reboot completely.

IF OS is the problem, might be smart to back things up, eh? Then reinstall the OS, could a virus be a problem with it?

I had one about a week ago, and used AVG to place the file in the vault. Although it isn't detecting the virus any longer, could it possibly be the issue here... or is PSU still a factor?

Any opinions????

So try backing up your files and doing a fresh xp install....

I do it every few months anyways. It's entirely possible it's something the virus program did.

I used registry mechanic once, and it wiped out 1/2 my drivers, so it's possible for a virus cleaner to do something similar.

Yeah, was considering it... probably will very soon... I think something like it might be causing it.
