Trojan.Stwoyle detected but no files. Please help me...

Hi all,

I've read some of the other posts and done as suggested, however, I don't seem to have the same files or identified items on my computer and the problem hasn't gone away.

My norton gives me a message box saying that it deleted a qXXXXXX_file.dll. microsoft scan says there is a ftp attack trojan and a dialer.CCaccess or something like that. I delete them, using scanner and another scan picks it up. I get the norton notice every hour.

Can someone tell me how this got or gets on my computer. I'm running XP and a router. I'm really frustrated that I can't figure out how it is or did get on my computer.

Second, will someone look at my hijack log and help me identify potential problems. None of the registry files that are identified on nortons site (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/trojan.stwoyle.html) appear to be on my computer and I have no idea what most this stuff is in the hijack file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you soooo much!

Hi dave.

Download Ewido. Install and update it, then boot into safemode and run a full scan, remove all it finds.
Then boot back to normal mode and post a new hijackthis log, and say how much Ewido removed.

in safe mode, i ran ewido and removed a ton of dialer.generic files in a temp folder and quite a few TrojanDownloader.Small.alr files. there were some others that I can post if necessary.

when I rebooted back into normal mode, norton was turned off (big red "X" on icon in system tray). Kinda weird.

Below is the hijackthis report while in safe mode:

seems a lot shorter, but i couldn't tell you what was really different. There are a few files i'm unsure about. Thanks for all the help! I look forward to any responses that might help me out.

Alright Dave.

Go to Add\Remove programs and remove Daily Weather Forecast, if there.
Then run Hijackthis, hit "scan only" and check these lines.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Daily Weather Forecast] C:\Program Files\Daily Weather Forecast\weather.exe

Close all open windows, and hit "fix checked".

Reboot and post a new log, and tell me what exact file Norton flags.

Thanks for the help. The ewido helped a bunch and I removed those three files. Everything seems ok. No files are being removed now on a regular basis and several subsequent scans have reported nothing. So, I think i'm good. Thank you so much. I was super frustrated with the thing.
