Trojan/Virus

OK,so a friends laptop has something on it.I did a seach and found "Trojan Search & Destroy" and she or I knowwhat to do.

I tried AVG Free but the site won't load,it just says server not found.
I tried a malware of some sort and it found some infections, but you have to pay to remove them.

What now?

To be on the safe side,I'm on my computer and not the infected one.I used the second one because the the first would even pull up.
bad thing is I didn't save the file to be post. There were 187 objects infected.
I searched for 'Trojan" and it still found two in C:/Program Files.

Can I just delete those and be good?

Please follow the instructions that Buzz posted or we can't help you. As long as you aren't too badly infected, Malwarebytes will install and run and should get rid of all the infections but we won't know that until you follow the procedure.

We will be awaiting your logs.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it,but her computer has a 30gig HD, and it's got only 2.44gigs of free.
Apparently it's had Norton on it,I searched "virus and it pulled it up.I thought about using the Norton Removal Tool, but every time I go try to AVG.com,it reads the sever can not be found so I can't download AVG free.

She mentioned about wiping every thing off of it and the start from scratch, just save all her important stuff to load up on it later.

You just have to be careful what websites you visit and what files you download. Some viruses appear as Malware whilst on a website which may be harmful. These appear to be fake virus scanners with an image of the Windows XP wallpaper "Bliss" which will be covered in a fake virus scanner window (its actually a SWF file which requires you to download a fake virus scanner) anyway thats just one i have had problems with loads of times.
