Trouble booting up....

Hello,

I currently have a HP Laptop. For the last couple of days I have been having some trouble booting up my laptop to load Windows. Their is no error messages, at times it will not boot up(sometimes I have to take the battery out and then put it right back in fo it to load up properly). I'm thinking it's the hard drive because I can hear it running somewhat loud and it seems like the hard drive is working extra hard, thats an assumption.

What do you guys think?

Listen for any clicking from your HDD. I would back up everything that means something to you incase it fails and I would consider doing a fresh install of the OS.

Yeah backing up any important documents, pictures, data, etc is an excellent idea

press F8 to access the boot menu, try startup repair, last good known configuration, or safe mode

if you can access safe mode try checking the disk for errors

if that doesnt work try running a system restore to roll back the system state back to a point where you know it was working

if none of those work, youll probably have to reinstall Windows

if you cant get through an installation, then you likely have a hardware issue

i often have a problem with my stepnote, if it is shut down, sometimes improperly, sometimes not, even a restart, as long as power is applied, it will forget what its configuration settings were. i typically have to disconnect power, enter the bios, save the current configuration, and boot without ac power applied, when it starts booting i plug it in and it runs fine, but still a mystery as to why it does that, i think its a bug in the chipset, as it has done it with XP, Vista, and Seven (RC)

Hey mate I m not sure about ur hard drive-may be may be it might be the hard drive but I had same problem with my laptop. First I thought it may be the windows- is corrupted or some hardware problem but infact it was battery problem. As u said u have to take out the battery to boot up again. Do one thing: unplug ur laptop from electric switch and take ur battery out- then plug back to main power but without battery inserted and see if same problem persists. If it did then might be hard drive problem.

Make sure as well that You haven't got any viruses

If it's not a hard drive then You could try to update Your BIOS :D be careful with re installation
