trouble burning DVD

I am trying to burn a DVD, but keep getting an error. I think that the problem is that I do not have the correct software. I have roxio that supposedly burns dvd's, but it doesn't seem to be working. Does anyone know of a free dvd burning program?
 
What is the error, exactly? If you give details to your problem, it will be easier to help solve it.

if you are trying to burn a retail or rental dvd then thats illegal so most dvd software wont allow you to do that. If that is what you are trying to do you wont find anyone on hear who will help! if not then post back with what you are trying to burn
 
I get the error, "Format operation on drive D:/ failed: The drive received an invalid command" I already tried using another disk, a different burning program, and have checked the drive to make sure the jumper is set and the cables are connected. My drive is an LG super multi, and I am using Memorex DVD+RW disks.
