Trouble finding amd cpu

I was orginally planning to buy an Amd 3000 939 venice for my new computer. A MSI neo-4 mobo, 430w E-power puma II psu with 26a on 12v rail. Already have some good mushkin pc3200 ram. Maybe a geforce 6600 vid card. Ok I can't seem to find many places that have the 3000 in stock. Why is there a shortage on them ? Also if i have to pay $150 plus for a 3000 would I be better off trying to get an opteron 144 instead? This will be my first build, and plan to try my hand at ocing once I learn more. Any help on finding a 3000 or reasons to dump it for a opeteron 144 would be great. Thanks
 
Yeah see cant find anyone who has a 3000+ 939 in stock, unless i want to spend more than a $150. I was thinking if im gonna spend $160 plus for a 3200 , it would prob be better to just get an opteron 144 for just a lil less.
