trouble getting a network to work...

Hello,

I have two WinXP machines I'm trying to network together. I ran the "network setup wizard" on both machines. On my laptop they both show up when I click My Network Places --> Entire Network --> Microsoft Windows Network --> Murray (this is my group name I created), but within my desktop pc only itself show's up. When I try opening my Desktop PC from my laptop it gives me the following error message...

---------
\\Adams is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found.
---------

The way I have the network setup is as follows...

My laptop is on a wireless connection.
My desktop PC is connected to this wireless receiver router.
The wireless receiver router is connected to our Microsoft Base Station.
The Microsoft Base Station is connected to our main DSL line.

Also, two other computers are connected to the microsoft base station, but I am not worried about having them networked.

When I was running "network setup wizard" I choose the option "This computer connects to the internet through a residential gateway or through another computer on my network". I also tried running it using the option "This computer connects to the Internet directly or through a network hub."

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

is the computers firewall one? If your behind a router you wont need it. Could be blocking the access...

When you are on the one computer trying to access the other one it shows the IP adress.
Go to the computer you are trying to acess and see if they are the same.

thats happened to me alot with my same type of connection at home

make sure that file sharing is allowed on both comps and also make sure u restart both comps a few times until it works

This message basically means a user account that you are logged on as doesn't have permission on the other PC. This can be fixed by creating a new user account on the other PC with the same user name and password. Another thing you can do is right click on my computer and do a map network drive. When you do this it gives you the option to specify a user name and password. Remember when you are filling this out to use a user name from the other PC. Once this is done you should be able to connect. Another thing. You'll want to share the drive you want to connect to. Then the pathname to connect to will be \\ComputerName\ShareName.
