trouble getting my new comp going

So it looks like i have everything installed correctly, but now i'm having trouble getting any image on my monitor. Also, i can't get my dvd drive to open, yet the green light is on? I have a feeling i'm just missing one little thing and i can't seem to find it.

Theres a small 2 prong connector on my video card.. does that have any significance? Heres my GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-

As far as plugging stuff into the dvd drive, its only the power supply and the host connector correct?

Sorry for all the questions, just looking for the problem.
Thanks

That video card requires a 6 pin pci express power connector from your power supply in order to work. If you don't have one then you'll have to get a converter from molex to 6 pin.

What power supply do you have?

Nothing, i just switched to the 6 prong from the PSU and still no image on monitor. Like i said, theres a tiny 2 prong connector onthe top of the GPU, incase that has any importance

I've looked at the pics on newegg and don't see what you are seeing. If it's a 2 pin connector, most likely its for a jumper.

I would try a different video card first. You said the green light to the dvd drive was on. Is it on constantly or just when you press the button to open the drive?

the green light is constantly on. Also, it doesnt sound like its trying to open when i click the button.. its just silent

Try a different drive, You may have a bad power supply or drive if the light is on constantly. Is this a sata or ide drive?

The case fans, cpu fans, and the video card heatsink fans all spin. The drive is completely unresponsive, simply showing the green light on at all times, and it doesn't sound like the hdd is spinning at all. The computer fails to post, but appears to be set-up perfectly fine. Removed one stick of RAM to see if that was causing any problems and it doesn't appear to be the case. Does this sound like a mobo or psu issue? Both are brand new, so this presents a problem.

Could be either or both. You'll just have to borrow a psu to test it out first. If it still don't boot, then its the motherboard.
