Trouble installing 2 disc games

I am having trouble installing a new game that has 2 discs.

i insert the first disc, put in the serial number, and the game starts to install.

Then around 50% it says insert disc 2. I do, but the programme stops responding. it always happens

it has happened on the 2 games that i have tried to install with no success. but when i go into control panel - add or remove programmes, the game is there.

the game i am trying is SimCity4, but my laptop that i am trying to install it on is an ASUS ASPIRE 6930G with XP Pro.

is it from an actual LEGIT CD?

If so, let it run, if you haven't already, because windows saying it isn't responding often means windows is thinking about it really hard, don't bother me. It should eventually pick up where it left off.

If not, try installing on another computer and see if it works. If it doesn't, you know that the second disc is messed up because it can't find the starting point, or the installer is because of the same reason

Indeed, if it's a legit copy, then contact the company or your local distributer if the problem persists. But as Aastii said, first try and install the game on a different computer, preferably on another laptop. If it encounters the same problem, then most likely it is caused by the 2 discs, and not the pc.
 
it is a legit cd

anyway, got it sorted now.
i did let it run without doing anything, still, not responding.
tried on my dads laptop, same thing.

anyway, i copied the files from each CD onto c drive then run setup.exe from the folder from 1st disc file.

did the first half of the installation without the disc, but then the files i copied onto the HD weren't reading (from 2nd CD), popped in disc 2, it worked

Mind that SimCity4 requires the second disc to play (yellow? If I recall correctly). Although this tip may not be very valid on this case, since I can't understand what the problem was (if it's troubled cd1 or cd2 response or something completely irrelevant).
