trouble installing 64bit windows

i got a question first of all,
Do i need to have an OS already loaded to install 64bit?

if i do need an installed OS which ones will i be able to use? (98se, xp or what?)


if i dont need any of the above, how do i get into the GUI screen? i get an error with the cd rom.

please help me out its my first build

first, do you have a 64bit processor? also, is the installation disk a dvd, i wouldnt think so but its possible, and u shouldnt need to have any os on the computer to install it.

its 64 bit and i have a dvd drive, but i can never get to the GUI stage of the install
