Trouble getting new card to work

Ok, so I am upgrading my card to a nvidia 6200 because my old car went on the fritz. With the old card in, with the plugin for the moniter on it's slot, I could see the icons but not the task bar. With in the intigrated chip's slot I can see the task bar but and the icons but cannot open anything up. With my new card, the 6200 I am having this same problem when I first put it in. When I get in installed the moniter is blank when I restart the comp. Any suggestions? My dad wants to format the computer and see if it works then.

What I failed to mention is with any graphics card in it does that. With nothing in the integrated chip it is fine.

Well, this happened with the 6200 when I first put it in. After I installed the drivers that came with it the windows xp startup came up but after that the screen was blank.

Really, it is too late now, my dad has started to format the computer but is having problems. It installed 98 instead of xp, so he is trying other options that you can chose during formating. He says he is positive that we have the right CDs.
