Trouble with connecting two monitors

Hi all,

I am new to this forum so please forgive any ignorance on my part regarding procedures etc...

I have a GA-MA69VM-S2 motherborad with a ATI Raedon HD 2400 Pro PCIe Video Card - It has 1 DVI and one 1 VGA connections.

I have 1DVI monitor cable that splits into VGA and DVI and have 1 one DELL P1914S monitor with DVI connection and one older LG with VGA connection but the second monitor doesnt seems to be connecting - I have gone to the properties and selected extend display options but system only recognises Monitor 1.

Any help will be appreciated .

All that you're accomplishing with that splitter is duplicating the display. Your GPU will only see it as one monitor since it's only using one connector on the card. The splitter simply provides you with the ability to output the signal to a DVI signal, a VGA signal, or both from a single DVI connection. The signal on both will be the same picture. To extend displays you'll need to use both the VGA connection and the DVI connection on the actual card.
 
Thanks for your prompt response Darren - So to be sure I understand you - connecting VGA from graphcs card to VGA connection on 1 monitor and then again DVI from card to DVI on monitor will allow me to enable dual display and extend my desktop?
 
Hey Darren, thought I might ask another question if thats okay?

If I have a graphics card with DVI and VGA connectors, will that render my VGA connector from the mobo useless or is it still possible to use it in conjuction with the Graphics card?
Hope that makes sense?

The VGA connector that's on your motherboard is for the onboard video, as in it's built in to the motherboard and operates separately from your dedicated graphics card. As far as I know it's not possible to use a dedicated video card and the onboard video card at the same time. If you wanted a triple monitor setup, you'd need a new card.

New Intel boards do indeed allow you to use a dedicated card and on-board at the same time. Obviously, though, the OP's AM2 board isn't going to support that.

I vaguely remember hearing about something like this, but as you said, I knew it wouldn't be something that setup was capable of doing.
 
Some boards have the option for 'extended display' that keeps the onboard video active. As stated, this probably isn't an option on the AM2 board though as it's primarily a function of CPUs with integrated video/iGPU (such as AMD APUs or more recent Intel builds). :D
