Trouble with Toshiba...(A rather stressful tale)

DLC2010

Hi

I'm trying to connect my Toshiba T9000 laptop to my BT home Hub v 2.0 wirelessly but having some difficulty. The laptop recognises the hub but everytime i click connect I get the same message;

'"Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again"

I have gone through some troubleshooting steps to resolve this but still to no avail. Do i need to update the driver? My inclination is this may have something to do with the laptop not being able to support WPA?

I'm not very computer literate but if anyone has any further input to help me with this matter then i would much appreciate it.

Kind regards

Hi,

Home Hubs, by default, have WPA/WPA2 security. This may be too strong for your laptop.

Change the security in the router to WEP and try and connect.

To get into the router type 192.168.1.254 in the address bar of your browser.
The password is on your router and requires changing the first time you enter it.
Then its into the wireless bit and amend the security.

Gary, that doesn't make sense. The security is not "too strong" for his laptop.

DLC, try getting closer to the router. If that does not work, restart the router. Just unplug the power.

Try updating your drivers for your wireless card. Go to www.toshiba.com and navigate to the drivers page. Find the drivers for you laptop, download the latest drivers for your wireless card.

If it still doesn't work, then disable, and re-enable the wireless card in your laptop. To do this:

Click the start menu -- select control panel -- select classic view in the left pane -- select device manager --find and expand the network adapters (by pressing the + sign next to the text saying Network Adapters) -- Select the wireless card -- right click -- select disable -- wait for the device manager to refresh -- select the wireless card using the same method as before -- right click -- enable -- wait for the device manager to restart

Then, wait a minute or two, and try connecting again. If it still doesn't work, let us know.
