Trouble with VPN - XP server

Hello i have been trying to set up a VPN connection at my small business so i can connect from outside of the network. heres what i've got so far:

1. set up an old xp machine as the VPN server (allowing incoming calls)
2. Connected to this machine while still on the network - while on LAN it connects fine by typing in the machines local ip.
3. Cannot connect from out side the network (from another Internet source)

I have delt with the router (port fowarding/enalbing passthrough) and yet this problem still persists.

Our internet providers have sent a static ip/gateway ip and a Network mask. I understand i am meant to implement them into the server/network but i am unsure where.

any help would be much a aprreaciated

You might need to ask your ISP how to set up the VPN with the static configuration. VPNs can be tricky, but you need to set up the server with the static config and then allow a VPN connection through the router. What make and model of router are you using? Have you tried any other software like LogMeIn or anything?
