troubles with avast download

it go's to download then asks what do I want to open it with. (media players, note pads etc) what did I do wrong? I remember using this years ago but don't remember having this issue. The steps on the avast website wasn't even close to what I had going on lol Any help is appreciated! BTW windows 8.1.

Looks like you file extensions are screwed up. Go here and download the registry fix for the exe file.

When you click on the blue exe in the list toward the bottom, it will download a registry fix. You open that and allow it to merge into the registry and then you reboot and you should be able to install Avast.
