I thought this was going to be so simple. Best Buy salesman said pc5300 module would work even though my existing ram is pc4200. I called PNY technical support when it caused my computer to have issues and he said it would be best to match the pc4200 and he added, it sounds like the problems you are having is because your cmos battery is going. He gave me instructions and I just finished installing a new cmos battery and the pc4200, 1 gb of ram. When I went to boot up I got a dos screen asking to enter setup or continue. So I hit continue. Then it said i needed to insert my system cd to continue the boot, so I did and now I am a Welcome to Windows XP Setup screen and it is giving me 3 choices. I have not continued because I am in way over my head at this point and I am afraid if I continue I may lose the data on my hard drive (I don't have the files backed up). The 3 choices are:
1. To set up Windows XP now, press enter.
2. To repair a Windows XP installation sing Recovery Console, press R.
3. To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3
Please help and keep in mind I am a real novice and I can't lose the data on the hard drive. Thank you.
