Trying to build a build revolving around i7-2600k

I'm looking to build a new desktop revolving around the i5-2500k CPU. In terms of budget, I don't have a tight one, however I'm trying to get it as low as possible.
My current rig right now:
- AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2ghz
- 8GB G.SKILL Sniper RAM
- ATI Radeon HD 5770
- Asus M4A88TD-V EVO

My brother needed a computer so I was thinking of handing this down to him and building myself a new one. I'm not too computer-savvy (Well, not a TOTAL rookie at that). I was hoping my new build with the i5-2500k would surpass this, mostly in terms of GPU.

Main use:
• Gaming (Tons of this)
• Research (Homework etc.)
• Entertainment (Music and Videos, etc)
• Multitasking (Listening to music and playing games without minor lag)

EDIT: Let's set a budget. Let's say.... $700. I will get most my parts from www.DirectCanada.com
I mean I'm not in a rush to build a new PC, do parts go on sale much? NewEgg.ca or Tigerdirect.ca is accepted also.

Case is personal opinion. I like the switch 810 from NZXT. I certainly would not buy from coolermaster again. But again, personal opinion.

You will not find a better board than the Gigabyte UD5H and Sniper 3. But if you are not in need of tri SLI or above the UD5H is the one to go for.

Hard drive you want one that is from Seagate, Samsung, or Western Digital with 32 or 64 MB of cache.

In terms of GPU, I haven't exactly chosen yet (Does it matter to the build? I'm sorry!) and for the RAM, It's most likely going to be 2x4GB sticks for G.SKILL Snipers. I'm going to use this as an everyday computer, with the inclusion of gaming. I multi-task a lot, so I prefer power.

If you're not going to be doing any rendering/video editing, anything like that, an i5 2500k or 3570k would be plenty. You'd notice no difference. Better to put that money into the graphics card.

Right. So I should drop to a i5 2500k to save that extra $84? Or would $84 be worth the upgrade?

You simply will not notice a difference unless you're doing rendering/video editing as stated early. Save the 84 dollars and put towards a better GPU or some games. :D

Yeah get a 2500K and put the 84 bucks towards a better GPU like Denther said above. :) The 2500K's a great processor by the way, using one now and love it. Overclocks very well too when paired with a good board and cooler.

Do you have an os? If your buying Windows + 2500K you won't have much left for a gpu if you stick to 700 budget.
