Trying to build my computer.

So i am about to embark on the journey of building my first computer by myself. I've done a few with someone supervising, but now i am solo. So the first thing i want to do before buying is make sure everything is compatible.

Motherboard: Asus P6T
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1366/P6T/

CPU: Core i7-960 3.2GHz LGA 1366

Hard Drive: Caviar Green 1TB SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5"
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0347229

Ram: Gold XTC 6GB DDR3-1333 (PC3-10666) CL 9 Triple Channel
http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-ddr3-pc3-10666-gold-low-voltage-triple-channel.html

Video Card: ZT-50601-10L NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 1024MB DDR3 PCIe 2.0 x16
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0362393

Case: Thermaltake V3 Black Edition
http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1390&ID=1913#Tab1

Power Supply: Don't have on me right now , but am almost positive it will work with all the above components.

So i know the Motherboard and CPU will work together. Only problem is i am not 100% sure about how the RAM will interact with the motherboard and CPU. As for the rest i am fairly sure it will all run smoothly.
So i guess my big question is about the RAM, and if you spot any other problems just let me know.

Thank you in advance for anyone who replies.
Sincerely,
Matt

That video card won't do for gaming at all. You'll want at least a GTX 560 Ti.

PSU: See the sticky in the PSU section on how to choose a good power supply and determine the good from the bad.

Thermaltake V3 is alright but you can do better: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197

That RAM is slow. 1333Mhz CAS9. You'll want 1600MHz CAS9 at least. Higher speed and lower timings are better.

Hi,

It would have been better to have gone LGA1155 build or wait a little and see what Bulldozer brings.

You did not mention what you intend to do with this build,So if its gaming id reconsider another graphics card because your not going to get much out of a GT520.

  • Whats your maximum budget?
  • What is that power supply you have..we need to know exact model.
  • Do you have an Operating system already?

What is your budget?

Don't get LGA 1366. LGA 1155 is what you need
RAM - DDR3 1600
HDD - Don't get WD Green, it is slow
Video card - Are you gaming? GT520 are for htpc.

To answer some of the questions:

This PC will be for moderate gaming, not planning on playing anything on MAX settings, for now just enough to be able to play games like Starcraft 2, Diablo III, and maybe Fallout on decent settings, maybe medium to medium-high graphics wise for games like those listed above.

Max Budget is 500$ (give of take about 50$)

SO this would mean i HAVE the following: The p6t motherboard, an OS, and a Power supply (which i will post specs/model asap, which will most likely be sometime in the next 24hrs.)

Operating System will be Window's 7 Ultimate.

P.S. i know the power supply is 500W (if that helps at all for now)

If there was anything i missed please tell me.

Thank you to all who have responded i appreciate it.

I would definitely change the video card with a higher-end one, the Radeon HD 6950 is top of the line, but cheaper than other top of the line video cards, and get a processor, The new Sandy Bridge line, and motherboard with the LGA1155 socket. The 1366 is becoming outdated.
