Trying to restore to factory settings

Hi,

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right forum but I'm desperate for advice. I have to restore my pc to factory settings due to blasted virus, I have the original documentation which tells me how to:

F8
'Repair my PC'
They then tell me that I have to select the user name and enter password and to leave password blank if there is none.

I can't get any further than the 3rd bit above, when I get to that screen the only option available is 'other users' which I click and get asked for a username and password. I've tried everything I can think of from leaving it blank to all the user names, administrator etc but I keep getting the following message:

'the specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted vista when trying to restore to factory settings'

I have no restore CD just these instructions.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do myself before I have to try and contact the maker of the computer?

You can't do anything. It looks like a password was set up. Short of that you are out of luck. Of course other than a reinstall.

If its a Dell you might try cntrl F11 at start up.But no guarantees. If you didn't make a backup or get a restore CD you might try a new OS purchase. I did this same stupid thing. No CD no backup CD. I bought a window 7 64 from newegg and got a fresh install.
