trying to stream video

ok, so i want to stream video over to my friends house. Yesterday i setup videolan and tried it out locally and it seemed great, but when trying over the Internet, it would play for 3 sec and then freeze. my upload (thanks to comcast) is 1.5 meg and he has 12 download so i would say that should be at least enough to have a small stream go... but what ways can i make this work? it is not needed, just something to do over christmas break which is in 3 days, 13 hr 56 minutes but who's counting

You sure you get 1.5 up?

I know with the comcast I have here, I get an amazing upload for 15 seconds, then it drops to a 40KBps at max u/l.

All speed tests are unreliable, you need a lot more transmission data to get an accurate speed.

well lets say i do... or just say i have whatever, how can i compress it or make it smaller. i mean sling box does a great job.
