Trying to uninstall Norton...

I am trying to uninstall Norton to run a different Anti Virus software. The one I was trying install won't let me finish until I uninstall Norton first. I go to add/remove programs click on the "Norton AntiVirus 2004 (Symantic Corporation)" Click 'Remove' then the Norton set up box appears, telling me that "This completely removes Norton AntiVirus 2004 from your computer". So I proceed to click "Remove all" then the box goes to a screen that gives all the normal blah blah blah..... So I click 'Next' then a dialog box appears for a brief second then it errors out saying "Norton AntiVirus 2004 uninstallation failed, would you like to try again. If I do it will continue to fail. So I say 'Abort' the next on the set up screen and it gives another error "Uninstallation encountered an error and was unable to remove the application.

Help please.

Any advice?!!!!!!!!
 
Sounds like its missing certain uninstall files, or files are in use.

Try to boot into safe mode and uninstalling it there.
