Turn game into ROM? SNES

How exactly do people make roms? Do you need a specail peice of hardware? I want to make ROMS out of all my SNES games for backup. Then maybe I won't have to keep replacing parts on my SNES & games, and basicly jsut for backup incase I ever F one up while working on it.

I should be good for a while though, Since i just installed a new 72pin connector in the SNES itself(What the games plug into) and installed new batterys in 30 of my games.(got a lot of 30 CMOS batterys of ebay)
 
why not just download the roms instead of manually making backups yourself, are you talking about backing up saved game data?

Because downloading roms is breaching copyright laws and against the rules on this forum and he's talking about the whole cartridge not the saves.
