Turning off monitors

I have just reinstalled XP after a nightmareish experence with Vista. My computer used to, after 10 min of inactivity show the screen saver, then, if still inactive, turn off the monitors but the hard drives stayed up. Now, I have gone to 'Power Options Properties', 'Power Schemes' and set 'turn off monitors' to 15 minutes and 'turn off hard drive' to never. Can somebody please tell me how to get back to where I had it before?

i have mine set to

screen saver: none
turn off monitor after: 5 minutes
turn off hard drive: never
system standby/hibernate: never

if you want a screensaver first

screen saver: pick one
screen saver after: 5 minutes
turn monitor off after: 10 minutes
turn off hard drive/standby/hibernate: never

Just what I did, but for some reason it is not taking.

Can you go a bit more into depth about what you want to change? And what was wrong with vista, im interested because i am running it now.

What I would like, after 20 minutes of inactivity for the screen saver to show, then, if still no activity, the monitors to shut off but not the hard drives.

RE Vista, I ran the check up MS has online to see if there are any non-Vista compatable programs or hardware. While it showed one of my printers would not work, my other (main) printer would. It didn't show any other conflicts of major importance to me. So, I bought and installed Vista Ultimate. Following suggestions from different sources I did a 'clean' install. Of course, before doing this I backed-up any documents and pictures I wanted, to be sure didn't disappear, on an external hard drive I use for just such a purpose. I transfered 'My Pictures' and 'My Documents' in mass. After installing Vista there were conflicts that I was not advised I would have (such as PhotoShop), or I would not have installed it to begin with. Be advised, I'm hearing impaired and do not use the phone. My copy of Vista came with 90 days of no charge tech help online. I tried several times to use this service, but every time it wanted a credit card number and said I would be charged. For some reason my 'number' didn't take. I tried to find where I could email to get help but I couldn't find anything except phone assistance (which I can't use). Finally, I found a fax number for the closest MS office (Tampa) and sent a fax discribing my problem. I didn't hear from them for several days and so I tried to re-install my copy of XP Pro that came with my computer. It would not install XP over Vista. I had my hard drive (just the main one that had the OS) formated so I could install my old XP OS that came with my computer. Let me say, I have a 2.8 Pentium D and 4GB RAM, so no problem there. I did, after about 8 days, get a responce from MS in Tampa. The lady I delt with was very nice throughout all this. After being advised that I incured expence she offered to send me another copy of Vista and assured me that if I had any problems contacting tech assistance to let her know and she would fix it. I replied that I was willing to try Vista again but would install it on a different drive to protect myself just in case. I would use an 80GB drive that I currently use only for a scratch disc. I hope the copy she sends is not an 'Upgrade' copy as it will go on a clean drive. I hope this answers your question. BTW, Staples took back the Vista program without a hassle even though it was an open box.
