turning off the computer moniter

I have a uncle that says you should never turn off a computer moniter but not the CPU does anybody have any input on this

he just says that it is bad

he says there is no proof that what you guys are saying is true

Well best HE registers here at CF so we can tell him straight ;)

As for leaving eletrical equipment on, it can actually last longer than switching it on and off all the time because of the effects of THERMAL STRESS ,

A simple example of this is a lightbulb with a filament- it turns on, gets hot, gets turned off, cools down and so on- eventually the metal componant(filament) snaps which is why it usually happens when a light is switched on due to rapid heating !!

All electrical componants can suffer from thermal stress especially in PC's so leaving it on for long periods CAN prolong your hardwares lifespan BUT at the cost of Global warming ;)

LCD - Good.

CRT - Ehh... it'll be good as long as you have the screensaver on. Better to turn off though.

Don't waste electricity!

well I hear comments like that from customers almost everyday so it just goes straight over my head !! , doesn't mean I think any less of them ;)
