Turning on

Hi,
I have a p3 1ghz pc with 256mb ram, and a 32mb video card, 30Gb HD
And it won't switch on. so when i plug the computer into the power it creates a really loud high pitch noise, that totally doesn't go away. When i press the on switch it starts beeping and all the leds start to flash eg the HD led and power led. Nothing comes up onto the screen it just beepes. i have tried using a different HD to switch it on but no results. So i suspect it is something to do with the motherboard, or processor. If there are any ideas what it could be let me know, other wise i will probably end up chucking the old thing out. Thanks in advance.

What do the beeps sound like (long or short and in what order) and is the high pitched sound like a siren?

the high pitch sound isn't like a siren it is a sound that doesn't change it keeps the same tempo and volume and goes on forever. The beeps r short each beep is like a second and also never stops. it is always short and never changes the timing between the beeps or the beep itself

all i know is that it is a intel p3 1GHz , and can i clear the bios without the computer switching on cos the pc doesn't load anything it just beaps. not sure how to clear the bios.

Easiest way to do so is remove the battery (the little round one on the motherboard) for ~1 minute and then put it back in. If you can get it to boot after than do a run through with Memtest86.
