Turns on for a split second

My new build will only turn on for a split second. The fans will start and everything then it turns off again. I'm very confused. This is my first build so that explains it. Any Ideas?
edit- Also I can't find anywhere to plug in my 4 pin cpu cooling femal plug thingy. The mobo has 3 pin slots but no four. I can't find an adapter either.
- Fan
- Mobo

If it only turns on for a split second, generally that means you have a faulty PSU or faulty motherboard, given that everything is connected correctly.

Not having the CPU fan plugged in shouldnt cause this. Is there a way to make it fit so it at least powers on, and maybe just loose control over the fan speed?

No. The normal fans barely have time to move at all before it shuts off. I probably pluged something in wrong. !!!The main power connector is 24 pin on mobo but powersuply is 20pin.Maybe thats it

I've used a 20-pin before, and it should work. I would double check everything to make sure it's connected properly. Make sure the CPU is installed the right way, and the same with the RAM, etc.

Also, did you use the motherboard legs when installing it? (short screws, usually gold, that go in between the motherboard and motherboard tray?

Yes^^. I'll go double check everything. I have a feeling it has something to do with the powersupply wiring.

No need to triple post - we don't live here.

Make sure that you have plugged in the 4-pin ATX12V connector (it's just above the 24pin ATX main on that board).

You did remember to install the stand-offs between the board and case, right?

Nevermind. It doesn't work with 24pin either...
How did you ascertain this? (Did you test another PSU, or do you have a 20+4 pin PSU and just forgot the additional 4 pins).

Your Problem is that u have too many fans/ drives or whatever u have connected on the same line of power. you know how you have the power cables for like fans and things, share out the load. this is your problem. I had it too.

You have to be joking... Fans use so little power, you could hook more then 10 on a single line without any problem. Remember, the same lines that power the fans also power high end video cards!

!!!!It's the power supply!!!!I tried another and it works!!!!BUT will this supply be able to power my system? Would newegg return my more powerful supply for a new one supply?
Working less powerful PSU(in case)
More powerful not working PSU
I suspected it was the PSU. Generally when it come on for a split second, it means either the PSU or Mobo is defective.

If the one you bought seems like its a really good deal, I would get it. Usually the chance of getting another DOA when you return one is pretty slim.

o ok. But I figured out it works it just has the wrong cables :( I need a 4 pin cpu conector and this has a 6 pin. Thanks everybody for the help

Did you not have it plugged in? You should be able to use a 6-pin in the 4-pin, you'll just have 2 extra pins.
