Turntable to computer

I've got an older Sony PS-2700 turntable that I'm trying to hook up to the computer.

I've connected the turntable to the input jacks on the external preamp, and I hooked up the preamp output cable to the line in port on the back of the computer.

Power is on.

No sound.

Do I need a program through which to play LP's, or should it play directly through my computer speakers?

If you have the pre-amp connected to your computer via line-in, it doesn't matter what's plugged into the pre-amp, as long as the pre-amp works you will hear whatever is on the input.

My guess is that your line input is disabled. Go to Control Panel > Sound > Recording and see if line-in is disabled. Also go into line-in properties and enable "listen to this device".

Thanks

"Listen to this device" was missing.

At least I now get a humming through the speakers. Not picking up music though.
