TV Card Discussion

Hi guys.

I'll cut to the chase, within the past 3 years, I've gone through around 5 TV Cards. From Freecom, Hauppage, Leadtek etc etc.

Each one has given me stuttery frames, and a miserable experience. Although some channels, pick up fine and I have no problems with.

My Terrestrial Aerial is Crystal Clear, picks up all 5 channels easily and theres no signal problems whatsoever. I also have a Freeview box on the line, which also picks up around 75 channels, all viewable.

During my last card, I picked up around 50 channels, had around 8 watchable. Also stuck a freeview box to try to act like a booster before the line hit the card.

Oh, I also have a Signal booster on the line straight from the aerial.

I'm again in the market for a new TV Card, have been looking at this. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-014-CP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=169

I'm in a freeview area. And my reception is good.

The only thing I can think of is that the booster in my house is straight after the aerial. This is because there are multiple lines connecting from it going to various areas in the house.

I'd assume it's best to have a signal booster some distance down the line? So that when the signal does eventually become weak, its boosted. Instead of being boosted when theres a good signal anyway.

Anyway I'm thinking about picking up a cheap TV Booster and sticking it on the end of my line, then running it to my TV Card.

Any idea's? Would his be the best bet?

EDIT: Also, I've layed down a brand new line straight from the Booster Box into my room, and theres no improvement...

Hi again.

I found my old TV Card, which is working still. :)

Heres my TV Booster...

It's Old.... Very old. Was all hooked up when I first moved into this house, over 7 years ago.

Here's what I did today.

Wired Card to New line from Amp - Crap Signal.
Wired Card directly from Amp - Crap Signal.
Wired card directly to House Antenna - Slightly Better signal.

Using the last method I can get about 50-60% of my avaliable channels.
Mainstream channels are Fine, Others are Laggy and some don't broadcast at all.
This method cannot be longterm as it cuts the rest of the house off.

I find it weird that my Booster box worsens the quality of the line, even when I connect the card to full output of the Amp, 26DB.

Heres what I'm thinking.

Either, Get a new Amplification Box, The Output from the Antenna is *OK* A booster would greaten the signal. Should push my Signal % up?

I know that a standard Freeview Box have built in boosters. Which is why they work under my antenna. Which makes me want to buy a high quality booster.

OR

Buy my own antenna. Either a good quality indoor one, or a mini antenna that I can sit somewhere outside.

This idea wouldn't require a booster. Which concerns me. I may be no better off.

What would be better

Antenna - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5352526/Trail/searchtext>TV+BOOSTER.htm

Booster - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5346147/Trail/searchtext>TV+BOOSTER.htm

I think im gonna go for the antenna. - Reason being. A TV 'booster' is to boost a signal, / Extend the range, I doubt it'll make the picture any clearer / pick up any more channels. Just improve the clarity of the existing ones. Which is not what I need.

I know I can get all the channels as with a standard freeview box it works flawlessly.

I think this antenna thing is my best bet. It's indoor/outdoor, has great reviews, and also comes with a booster anyway.

Opinions?
