TV for monitor

I have a 60" HD T.V. with a DVI connector and want to use it as the monitor for my computer since i have a wireless keyboard and mouse i just want to be able to sit on the couch and mess around on the internet. I dont play any games at all so I dont need a top of the line video card, but i still want an awesome picture and im not really sure what to buy since i dont want to spend a fortune any recomendations under $100?
 
What type of card would you need? Are you still using an AGP or moved upto a newer board with a PCI-Express 16x slot? Newegg had a good Radeon X800 for about $60-. Plus ATI's desktop manager allows support for this. The X850 does get better reviews for the older model card there. The X800 was looked over fast here while trying to either swapout a board with a failing chipset with a different make or go with a budget new where the X800 was in the price range we apparently are both looking at. MSI also does have some great NVidia cards to think about as well.
 
Is this monitor a plasma or what. If so, it should look alright. If it's an older CRT, though you have some problems. I can get into more detail, but older CRTs run interlaced where as computer monitors and LCDs/Plasma's don't. IE, MAJOR quality loss.
 
http://www.hitachi.us/tv/browse/lcd/lcd/60V715.shtml offers a look at one 60" model that will take both analog and digitally input signals without issues. The model there is one of Hitachi's higher end lcd projection screens. But your user's manual should readily indicate if it supports s-video or dvi input. Gee when I swapped items at newegg the X800 128mb card was replaced by the X1300 Pro 256mb model to find out that the newer model only had four pixel lines compared to the X800's 12. That may be another item to consider when making your selection.
 
well the card I have now is a nvidia geforce 4 mx420 64mb agp 4x and the screen is not a plasma but it is a hi-def tv able to run up to 1080p, all i want is something that will be very clear and high quality when using my tv for the monitor i dont play any games at all so thats not important.
 
It sounds like you are running an old model board that will accept an AGP 8x/4x model to see some improvement with a 128mb or even 256mb card. Compatibility will be the main thing between PC and TV however. Having an S-Video input on the TV itself could prove to be the winning point over plugging vga direct. That would allow a desktop managing software to configure the display.
