im building myself a desktop atm and am having a problem that i dont have anywhere to setup a monitor without having it in a room with no AC. i do however have a 720p tv. my tv supports up to 1360x768 resolution for pcs so will i have any issues reading text and such? I have never used a tv as a monitor before.

also not sure if this helps but it has a stretch to fit setting, and a dot by dot setting that wont stretch.

It is generally not reccomended to use tv's for computer screens, the main reason is they are not designed for it. while it may seem like an easy way to save a quick buck, because tvs are not meant to be used like computers, things like the taskbar being burnt onto the screen will occur. My friend set his computer up on a tv, and it was a headache to scale the image correctely.

Newer plasma TVs reduce the burn-in problem and take active steps to move the image around a bit in a way that the viewer wouldn't notice (check your TV manual for adjusting these settings, but even with these features, you might still get burn-in), and LCD/LED TVs are generally less prone to burn-in issues. Nevertheless, I've personally seen burn-in issues with a plasma TV that was purchased less than a year ago (and has anti burn-in options). I've used a TV (1080p) as a PC monitor before, the text was readable but viewing my desktop on a TV was uncomfortable.

Basically, if you have an LCD/LED TV then you could probably use it as a monitor without having to worry about burn-in, but you might find it uncomfortable viewing your desktop on your TV.

I regularly use my 56" DLP TV as a monitor. It has the capability, so why not?
