TV Tuner : Does coax input recieve sound at all?

I don't have a card set up, but, if I just a wall jacked coax cable cord, and have that signal into a tuner card will it pick up sound or will i have to run it through a different device first to convert the sound input to a 3.5mm jack??
I don't have the card yet, so just in general terms, with cheaper cards.

It's no different than it would be with a TV. Coax carries both audio and video. However, depending on the card, you may have to make a connection from your tuner to your sound card to actually hear it.
