TV tuner doesn't work in Vista

Hi, I bought a usb TV tuner and it won't find digital channels on my vista 64 bit machine. When it scans for channels it finds all the analogue ones but freezes when searching for the digital ones. On the same machine I have an XP 32 bit partition, which it works fine on and finds all the digital channels. So I think it's vista causing the trouble.

I think it's 64bit that's causing the problem since the support for tv tuner cards still lacks for Vista in general. The tuner capture card here displays in Home Premium 32bit but will duplicate a thousand mpeg IIs when going to record or capture any incoming a/v! In XP on the other hand everything works like a charm.

What make and model card are you running there? Pinnacle sees 64bit as well as 32bit support? while no picture was displayed on a supposedly Vista compatible tuner card used to replace another brand's that quit. I replaced that with another of the first card being an AVerMedia AVerTV A180 PCI not usb card to see that display but not record.

I'm using a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 900H it's a usb device that supposedly supports XP and vista 32 and 64 bit.
One thing I should note; When I tried installing it the autoplay would not run, so I had to manually look for the driver install, then the device install. But can't see that being any problem really.

and your'e certain you installed the 64 bit drivers and not just the 32 bit. The 64 bit are here if you want to try these.

I tried using the drivers in that link, but it can't find the hardware. It comes up in windows "found new hardware" so it's deffinately there. Might be because that was for a HVR 900 and mines a HVR 900H.
The latest Driver i've tried is CD 4.6b from http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/forumdisplay.php?f=85 but I just clicked on HcwDriverInstall.exe, it didn't mention if it was 32 or 64 bit. However in the comments from that site, people have used it for 64 bit.

The autoplay not running suggests the incorrect version. With XP installers even while a driver or program will run in Vista the installer won't. As far as the HowDriverInstall.exe tool see if you get any further with it. But from practical experience here some cards simply won't run correctly in Vista despite the "claims made" about them being Vista ready?

Har! :P The joke is on the people that buy them instead of some other make or model that will run. The Pinnacle card mentioned before as well as the AVerTV card both run perfect in XP with only one viewable in Vista. That's a mystery the support staff hasn't come up with an answer for either.

HAVE FUN! I've been going through this on the Pinnacle PCTV Pro PCI type tuner card I had in here as far as Vista is concerned. The support staff(different reps too) haven't come up with any solution or reason why their Vista update fails to work. Yet the card is supposed to be Vista compatible?
